About The Art
Whitewashed village houses set against a dazzling cobalt sky. The shimmering horizon of the Aegean. A distant fishing boat heading for harbour. Stepped streets and jumbled rooftops – bright red geraniums in turquoise pots. Tiny hillside chapels and rickety taverna chairs. Sun faded shutters and peeling walls – layer upon layer telling the story of days gone by.
This evocative art is all about summer sunshine and a slower, more traditional way of life. Everyday street scenes, quickly captured in watercolour sketchbooks, find their way into a textured mixed media painting. Distant memories of long-ago travels around the Greek islands and the Mediterranean, are captured between layers of handwritten text, paint, ink and wax.
For those who know and love Greece, these paintings will evoke a strong feeling of connection and memory. For those yet to discover it’s delights, I hope to inspire and awaken curiosity.
