Where did the summer go? The Vassilitsi art exhibition, come-mock-wedding, come-Panigiri, two-day event took place way back at the end of July! Somehow it took Mick and I over five hours to set up my two, double-sided stands on a sweltering-hot day in the school building. Lets just say it wasn’t the best idea I ever had to cover wire stands with emulsion-painted olive sacking. It looked great but the (by now rather rigid with paint) sacking wasn’t the most forgiving surface to hang lots of small frames from! We eventually collapsing into To Limenaki Taverna around 5.30pm for lunch! Olive sacks aside, it was a great weekend and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It was nice meeting lots of new people and getting a little behind-the-scenes glimpse at all the work that goes into setting up a major community event on this scale. The Vassilitsi and Faneromeni village sylogos worked tirelessly to organise and run the show(s). Several of my fellow-exhibitors were also in the wedding-play on Friday evening; in the dance performance on Saturday night; cooked lots of home-made food for the panigiri and hauled tables, chairs, beers and drinks during set up. Plus they had to tidy up afterwards! All that on top of learning their lines for the play, changing into traditional costume for the dance performance and setting up their stalls! I felt like a real slouch by comparison! As business was rather slow on the Saturday evening, I took advantage of the situation and joined in the dancing with some friends – two of whom generously helped me pack up and load the car at 2am – thank you ladies!
Although this was my fourth year exhibiting in Koroni, it was the first time exhibiting in Ninette’s Dance Studio. It was also the first time I had had a show during peak season week in August. We loved the new venue, which was comfortable and homely with all mod cons like a fridge and a loo… and a handy proximity to Takis’ Cafe and Bogris Taverna for supplies. It was great to be able to hang out watching the high season car-parking antics and to have so many International visitors drop by to look at the art. Again, I met some lovely people – holidaymakers, local ex-pat home-owners and Greeks returning to their family homes for the summer.
The Koroni Exhibition was built around my latest work ‘A Postcard from Greece’ which was very well received, with several people snapping up the original altered-postcard-art and others choosing larger, canvas print reproductions of the images. I’m so happy and grateful to think that my artwork will now be living variously in Italy, Germany, Holland, Spain, England and Greece. Makes me feel quite the International artist!
The packs of postcards we are having printed up from the originals (as mentioned at the Koroni exhibition) will be available very soon. And….our 2017 Art Calendar, which features thirteen lovely ‘postcard’ images will be available from the end of September this year! You will be able to order both postcards and calendars direct from our website very soon!
