Walking above Chrysokellaria

Starting off with a rather steep ascent through the back-streets of the village, we were soon enjoying the splendid views afforded by our efforts.

A stop was made at the superbly placed Aghios Nikolaos church, before continuing on to Ag. Sotirios and the shrine/monument with panoramic views over the coast.

Next stop was Yamia kafeneon for a drink and lunch break, before heading back to Chrysokellaria on the main dirt track.

Olive harvesting seems to be officially underway – we passed some pickers en route today, and the Chrysokellaria press has a few sacks starting to pile up…

Skirting the hill, we came across an unexpectedly large herd of (mostly) brown goats being herded onto  their lunch stop.

For our second walk of the season, we enjoyed another fabulously clear, dazzling, blue-skied day – perfect walking conditions.

The walk ended with a visit to the Chrysokellaria kafeneon/honey shop for a ridiculously cheap coffee, and a kilo of the latest honey to take home.

This walk was a mere 10.5 kilometres and our walking time was 2 hours 49 minutes, with an average speed of 3.5 kph.
